Pete had the Fourth of July off, so we were able to spend the entire day together. It was a HOT day, so going somewhere with water was a must. We decided to kayak down the river and stopped at a fun place to play in the middle (actually I went down first with Joe, met up in the middle with everyone, then Pete took Dan in the kayak the rest of the way... we're not quite ready to take Will with us yet so we have to switch off). We had so much fun at this swimming hole, we went again 2 days later, which is when we actually took these pictures.
Will's first time swimming! He seemed pretty neutral, didn't smile but didn't cry. The river is really warm right now, so the kids (and us) loved it.
There's a small little stretch of river that's about 1 foot deep that runs a little quicker where Dan and John had so much fun. They would walk to the top, hop in with their life jackets on and let the water push them down. Poor Joe, he didn't love the river too much. He's still pretty unsure of his footing. You can't see it too well in this picture, but he tripped on a rock and fell face first into another rock. Got a good bonk on his head.
When we got home we made shish kabobs for dinner... something new for us, and definitely a repeat. Then made homemade lime sherbet and did our own little fireworks show in front of our house... a $10 pack of fireworks are all we need right now to entertain everyone for an hour :) Someone in our neighborhood was also doing a ton of the fireworks that shoot up in the air and explode, which were just made legal here this year. Such a fun day. We were also able to talk to the kids a little bit about our wonderful country. I'm so grateful to live in this amazing country and have the freedoms we enjoy!

That watering hole looks like so much fun! What a great way to spend the day together, and finishing with kebabs and fireworks, does it get any better than that?
