Update/Snippets from us:
It's just toying with spring out here. Frustratingly, many of those "almost there, but honestly, not quite" type of days. This past week the kids were off for April break and I had the week off from work. We did a stay-cation and Jess had done a whole lot of research on the history of the area, pilgrims, revolution etc, and how to make a bunch of fun day trips. It's been really fun. On patriots day, we went to Concord early in the morning to see a rainy re-enactment of the shot heard round the world and skirmish at the old north bridge. It was freezing cold and it plain didn't fly with the kids, Dan led the movement of freezing cold people who bailed and went back to the car, demanding that he wasn't getting back out of the car the rest of the day. We therefore went home and watched the marathon on line and not in person, we were all too cold. (but if we had sibs running we would have been there for sure!)
On Sunday's to stay sane, we try to do "quiet time" like mom used to. One hour with everyone going to a separate place. However, we're short on rooms, especially with Sam napping. It's too cold to send someone out to the back deck for an hour and everyone is afraid of the basement storage area. Today I just went for it an offered the bathroom, but sold it that they would get to fill the tub with pillows and read books. Joe, who is super kid this week and thus gets the number one pick in the "quiet time spot draft," picked the bathtub! Booh yeah! That's what I call marketing.
Even with the bathroom, we're still a room short so Will, with the second pick, chose to "stay down heeyah (here)" in the family room. Shirtless and shoeless (having been playing outside with the hose in the 50 degree weather) he came in and was head bobbing after just a page or two of Richard Scarry. Now he's snoring beside me on the couch.
As you know, the animal game is a traditional game on the way to church. It's getting more advanced. It was just Dan, Joe and me because we had to take two cars. Dan chose a dingo, after studying about Australia this year. After hints that it was about the size of a dog and "doesn't live in the America's" we finally got it.
Joe's was awesome as usual.
After several other questions we found out it was a bird...
"Eagle, penguin, owl, hawk, sparrow, robin, cardinal, blue jay, swan, great blue herron, duck, goose, (and every other bird you can think of??)"
Joe: "no, no no no no etc"
Me: I don't know joe, you're going to have to give us a clue
Joe: It stahts with a b
Me: Bald eagle? Blue jay, black bird, blue bird, black jay (feeling sure it wasn't a real bird at this point),
Joe: no, no, no,
Me: The blue breasted whipper willow? (Think Brian Regan's comedy about bird sounds and golf if you've seen it, "I guess I'm supposed to believe the blue breasted whipper willow has altered its migratory pattern to enjoy some golf!")
Joe: no, but it does have three words in the name.
Me: I guess we're going to have to have another hint.
Joe: the second lettah is L and the first wud is a collah."
Turns out it was the black capped chickadee. And yep that is a real bird my friends.
Me: Wow joe, did you see that in Dan's library book about birds?
Joe: "No, I just hud someone talk about it once."
Joe is way interested in his older brothers lately, easily impressed by them in every way.
Joe: "Dad, Dan's sawn a stah Wohs ship that's bigger than a man before and he said it's weel, weely"
Joe: Dad, did you know that John wants to be the fust puhson to go to Mahs (Mars)? He said he weely does."
Me: "Well that would be pretty amazing, do you think he can do it?"
Joe: "No, because they-uz (there's) dust stohms."
